The most important door standards

Door systems must comply with EN 13241. Not only manufacturers but also maintenance companies are obliged to comply with the standards.

Our products used as protective devices on door systems, e.g. as safety edges, pull-in protection, door light grids or non-contact leading safety edges, must comply with EN 12978.

The following graphic shows the interrelationships and dependencies between laws, directives, ordinances and standards.

German Workplaces Ordinance (ArbStättV)

The German Workplaces Ordinance specifies what employers must observe with regard to the safety and health protection of their employees.

To make practical application easier for employers, the German Committee for Workplaces (“Ausschuss für Arbeitsstätten”) draws up explanatory Technical Rules for Workplaces (ASR). They show how the requirements laid down in the ordinance can be met in practice.

For door systems, the following applies:
“ASR A1.7 – Technical Rules for Workplaces: Doors and Gates”
This rule sets out the following core requirements for operating door systems:

  • annual inspection of door systems
  • measurement of operating forces, including on door systems put into operation before the European standards came into force (no grandfathering)
  • mandatory compliance with the maximum operating forces
